of Sunnyvale (I do not work on a commission basis).  The following job is 
local to Sunnyvale, CA (there may be a need in the NC office). Netapp is not 
providing relo services but will consider people from outside of California.

This position will be working on file systems for Netapp's crown jewel, the 
WAFL product line, designing scalable high performance file systems. The 
group has about 40 people and a "pick your culture" environment where you 
can sit with or without cubicle walls.
This group has an autonomous culture which empowers its engineers to make 
decisions and does not micro-manage them.

Title: Senior File Systems Design Engineer
Location: Sunnyvale
Description:
Job Summary: Senior software engineer, specializing in operating systems
and/or file system architectures, who will develop embedded kernel software
that runs on our storage appliances.

Essential Functions:

This job is all about developing scalable high performance file systems.
The engineer will participate in all phases of software development,
including specification, design, implementation, testing, and sustaining. He
or she will also interact with and influence other engineering groups,
customer support, marketing, and sales in support of that work. The engineer
will work collaboratively with many other engineers, and may be asked to
take on any engineering task that contributes to the company's success.

Requirements:

* This position requires an in-depth knowledge of file systems (or at least 
in-depth knowledge of kernels - unix or linux) and operating systems 
internals.

* The candidate must be a quick learner and be able to come up to speed on 
our architecture and code rapidly.

* He or she must also be adept at leading groups of engineers to successful 
designs and implementations of large-scale software systems, on schedule and 
with high quality.

* Expected and assumed: proficiency in C, excellent programming skills, and 
top-notch problem-solving ability.

* A positive, can-do attitude is necessary.

* The ability to persevere in the face of extremely difficult engineering 
problems is also required.

* The candidate must be willing and able to work at peak capacity both 
independently and in collaboration with other engineers.

Education:

Minimum BS CS/CE or equivalent, with 8+ years of experience in the 
architecture, design, and development of operating systems software, file 
system technology and data storage.
