Greenpeace International is seeking a motivated, talented Systems Support
Engineer to work in a dynamic team designing, maintaining and monitoring a
large and widely distributed network.

We are looking for a highly motivated individual with a very strong
technical background in system administration with the ability to
understand complex scenarios and mission critical support requirements.
The technical skills must be balanced with solid communication skills,
as this position requires communicating with internal users and other
teams within the organization.
Purpose of the Job

Develop and maintain information systems in Greenpeace International and
support users of those information systems in order to enable Greenpeace
to use the systems in the most effective and efficient way.

Development
Develop strategies,hardware/software policies and security procedures for
information systems used by GP.
Develop software and/or ensure the development to provide new
functionality for the information systems used by GP based on the
requirements of the users of those systems
Manage the relation with consultants and/or suppliers for the
hardware/software for the use of the information systems used by GP

Maintenance
Co-ordinate together with the information manager the request for changes
to the information
Purchase the necessary equipment for the maintained information systems in
co-ordination with the team leader system support
Provide and/or ensure the creation of good documentation according to the
documentation standards

Support and training
Act as the technical contact point for the users regarding the information
systems in co-ordination with the information manager
Provide and/or ensure the training to (technical) users and/or other
support staff in GP
Give direction and set priorities for the training for the information
systems
Review the procedures used by the users in GP in order to advice on
optimising them
Administer necessary accounting lists and/or other information related to
the information systems

Required Skills & Qualifications

. BS or equivalent experience
. 4+ years of experience with managing Linux servers
. Working knowledge of network administration (network services, like
DNS, http, etc; routing protocols, network configuration)
. Working knowledge of network security (SSH, SSL, iptables, etc)
. Programming experience, preferably Python, Perl, shell scripting. PHP
knowledge would be desirable.
. Fluent spoken and written English (as this is the working language
for the international team)

Preferably:
. Database administration, development (MySQL, PostgreSQL)
. Experience with highly available systems (HA) and services
(heartbeat, DRDB, etc)
. Working experience with LDAP
Desirable:
- Proven multicultural skills
- affinity with environment and the activities of Greenpeace

This job is based in Amsterdam but will require some travel and also some
flexibility in working hours
