That's s good list of features. I'm also curious - can you run
mediawiki on it via the web based tool ?

Lest we all mis-understand, a "backup" server for us is more than one
that just stores some gzipped files. We should think in terms of
having a complete alternative server, and one on which the contents
will be a mirror of the primary site. The mirroring may be a regular
manual process, and as our sysadmin increase their proficiency, we can
automate this too.

I'm totally convinced of the need for a backup server - only, I think
of it as an anternate standby server. With the right efforts, we can
make it a hot-standby server if need be.
