Hello,
I recently started the Asterisk-India user group and thought that a few
"Linux Chix" from India might be interested in joining.

The mailing list is here - http://groups.yahoo.com/group/asterisk-india

Website (useless as of now) - http://asterisk.org.in OR http://iax.in

What is Asterisk?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asterisk_PBX

*Asterisk* is a free software
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_software> / open-source software
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open-source_software> implementation of a
telephone private branch exchange
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Private_branch_exchange> (PBX). Like any
PBX, it allows a number of attached telephones
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telephone> to make calls to one another,
and to connect to other telephone services including the PSTN
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PSTN>. "Its name comes from the asterisk
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asterisk> symbol, *, which in Unix
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unix> (including Linux
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linux>) and DOS
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DOS> environments represents a wildcard,
matching any filename." [1] <http://www.digium.com/handbook-draft.pdf>

Asterisk is released under a free software license
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_software_license>: the GNU General
Public License <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GNU_General_Public_License>
(GPL). Mark Spencer <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Spencer> of
Digium <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digium> originally created Asterisk
and remains its primary maintainer; dozens of other programmers have
contributed features and functionality and have reported bugs.
Originally designed for the Linux <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linux>
operating system <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operating_system>,
Asterisk now also runs on OpenBSD
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenBSD>, FreeBSD
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FreeBSD>, Mac OS X
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mac_OS_X>, Sun Solaris
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solaris_Operating_Environment>, and
Microsoft Windows <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_Windows>,
although as the "native" platform, Linux is the best-supported of these.
