SLPWA Public Seminar: Sun Microsystems and Linux

Time: 5.30pm, Thursday 8 May 2003
Place: Sun Microsystems, Level 11, 256 Adelaide Terrace, Perth.
Entry: SLPWA members free, non-members $10

Speaker: Hans Humboldt of Sun Microsystems
Topic: Sun Microsystems provides servers running Linux, is the founder
and primary sponsor of OpenOffice.org, and has contributed
significantly to Gnome, particularly in the areas of accessibility and
internationalisation. In this presentation, Hans will speak of these
and other facets of Sun's open-source activities, including:
- Where Sun sees Linux fitting in the overall IT infrastructure of a
   business.
- Sun's Linux-related offerings, including a demo of its LX50
Linux-based server and details of some as-yet unannounced products.
- StarOffice and the related OpenOffice.org applications, and the
licensing and support arrangements available for StarOffice.

The talk will be between 30 and 45 minutes in length, and there will
be a short question and discussion time afterwards. Light refreshments
will be provided.

This is an excellent opportunity not only to hear about what Sun is up
to with open source, but also to find out about one avenue through
which you can satisfy those clients who hesitate to use open source
products because they fear that they will not be able to obtain
corporate support for them.

If you would like to attend, RSVP by email to events at slpwa.asn.au by
Monday 5 May, so that we can ansure that enough seating is available.

All the best
Jacqueline McNally
