Agree wrt to the website. Unfortunately, the problem with the mailing
lists is that they get rearranged. So 00001.html doesn't vanish, it gets
replaced with a new message.

Re Akkana's post, I *believe* the problem is that each message is
archived as it arrives at the server. If you have to rebuild the
archives from scratch, it can be hard to recreate that ordering. We have
occasionally done an archive rebuild for people who want a message to be
removed (most usually, someone who at some point in the past shared a
story of abuse and no longer wants it there) and archive rebuilds
apparently change some of the numbers.
