A long shot but...
Apparently, both NT and W2k writes fault tolerance info in the MBR and
overwriting the it like above corrupts that info. So, if you were using the
W2k raid/volume set capabilities that might be why it didn't work. The links
below describe a utility called Disksave which might help if you plan to
recreate the incident. :)
