[Techtalk] Palm M500 & Mandrake 8.2

Hey folks,

Has anyone had luck getting Palm M500 or related working on a Mandrake
8.2 distro (I use GDM if that makes any difference)?

I understand that the device needs a specific userid, and there is one
there that isn't mine.  I've tried hard resetting the device and then
trying again but I can't seem to get past a permissions error for the
device.

If anyone has been able to make this work, please give me a holler.. if
I can get this thing to sync I can actually enjoy using with the Palm! 
Not being able to sync makes me feel like I'm just pretending.

I'll be happy to answer questions about my setup if needed!
