Hello David,

as Carla already suggested:  use a TV Capture card

I have a Hauppauge and capture the stream with vlc.  :-S

However, I am searchin for a tool which run on the commandline  and  can
(endless) capture streams in pieces (e.g. 10 or 60 min.) and  save  them
numbered which will sov many problems if you  have  to  edit  the  Video
after capturing.

vlc and mplayer are all other the stable.  Both crash all the time!
They have both MANY "divide by 0" errors/crashes.
