Greetings all,
I enjoy reading the posts and solutions.
It has been a couple of years since I looked at using a *nix based server.
I want to set up a home network with a *nix server that will provide a solid
firewall, central file sharing and (hopefully) media streaming capabilities.
The big drawback is we only have Windows based computers and laptops.
Everything from XP Home 32-bit to Window 7 Professional 64-bit.
Would a *nix server be able to work for us? If so, what hardware and OS
would you recommend? I'm not a stranger to Linux, I just don't have
occasion to work with it very often.
I hard wired the house with a CAT 5E cabling system a few years ago, because
we have radiant heat in the ceiling which blocks most of our wireless
signals. I would like to hear your thoughts, recommendations and warnings
about such an endeavor.
Thanks,
Ande Anderson
