Hi, Alison,

By an amazing coincidence, my shell provider just offered a free trial sip 
service. I tested that on Ekiga and it works flawlessly.  Ubuntu seems to 
open the port automatically, a good thing since IP tables has (have?) been 
on my to-learn list since forever.

So it looks like the problem is Callcentric.  It's not surprising, given 
that Callcentric seems to need the most tweaking of all the VoIPs I tried.
