I think you are onto something. I have been using the nfs-kernel-server,
but I think there is a bug with it that I am running into. I was looking
at this list discussion:

I wasn't sure exactly what he meant by add nfs-common to the NFSROOT
file, so I looked at the bug report he was referring to:

So, there someone says add the -o nolock option, but I'm not sure where
to add this option. I am also not sure what fai is, so maybe this isn't
even relevant, but seems worth a try.
