Thanks for all the info... Especially the diagrams above,
very helpful! However, I'm still not sure any of them do
what I need... I need to select all records in Table A IF
they do not occur in Table B.

I understand that my NOT IN method is extremely
inefficient, but thankfully my data is comparatively small,
and as of yet I know no better way...
