Most houses in Aus. have 2 separate power circuits in the house and 1
more for lights. If there are things on the same power ciruit as the
monitor that are misbehaving they could cause this problem. 

Do you have someone who could test the monitor for you at their
house? Then you'd know for sure if it was the monitor.
