I use ogle ( http://packages.debian.org/ogle ). It uses libdvdread3, which is
available from debian main, but it can also use libdvdcss2, and is used to
decrypt protected dvds, which is not in debian proper but you can add one of
the following to etc/apt/sources.list:

deb http://www.debian-multimedia.org sarge main
deb http://www.debian-multimedia.org etch main
deb http://www.debian-multimedia.org sid main

( http://www.debian-multimedia.org/ )

It works for me.
