It seems surprising that Python isn't already installed. But have
you looked in the packaging tool?

It's been a long time since I had SuSE here, so I'm no help on
specifics like names and locations of menus. But Suse's system
administration program (it's called yast2, or at least it used to
be, if you run it from the command line, but it should be available
from your desktop menus) gives you a graphical window where you can
see your package list and see the packages available to be
installed. It would be really surprising if Python isn't in the
list. If it doesn't let you search by name, then look for a category
such as "programming languages".

Some googling and urlbar editing got me to
http://www.novell.com/products/linuxpackages/suselinux/python.html
but that doesn't give a place to download the rpm (and it only seems
to talk about 64-bit packages anyway), so they're probably assuming
that you're going to install it through yast. It does give a path
for where the RPM should be found on the DVD, though.

Most of the other google hits I saw for SuSe "10.1" python involved
people who were using python just fine but were discussing how to
install packages for particular python modules. Which makes me
wonder if something went wrong with your installation to cause
Python not to be installed properly ...
