[Techtalk] failed hard drive recovery

I had a drive go bad in similar fashion.  I removed it, installed the new
disk, reloaded that and, two days later, reinstalled the bad disk.  I was
able to mount it and read the data off it.  Needless to say, I dismantled
the disk once I'd got what I wanted...
