I learned a lot of interesting things about people's responsiveness to
deadlines, team organisation and a few other things from Tom DeMarco's
"The Deadline: A Novel About Project Management". It's not a great read
as a novel, but it's reasonable as an overview of some more traditional
theories about managing large software projects.
