Back when people made such a big buzz on Gmail's privacy statement, I
thought (and I still think) all webmail were doing the same thing.  If
all your mail are stored on their servers (that's necessary for you to
access the mail anywhere), searching must be performed on their
server.

Besides, I wouldn't be surprised if an ISP or company has multiple
copies of every email sent and received in the past year, and with
various degree of willingness, will forward to government when asked.
