Yeah, and imagine the uproar if the average family got 25 pieces of "buy
drugs illegally/avoid radar detection illegally/etc"  and ten pieces of
unsolicted pornography a day in their snail mail......but folks just accept
that there is no alternative to receiving such email other than locking your
email down to where any new correspondent would have to call or snail mail
you first to ask you to accept email from them.
