Normally, there would be a symlink from /dev/cdrom pointing to /dev/hdc
(or /dev/sr0, or whatever the CD/DVD drive on that particular machine
calls itself). Every distro I've used has done this, AFAIK - although
if you add the drive after installing Linux, of course, it may not
'know' it has to do so..
