Thanks Megan for the reminder re the default gateway - ! sometimes I 
think a big stick would help...

I've got it all working: once I got the nat stuff working, and sorted 
out the routing tables, it all went smooth as silk. I found the 
IP-Masquerade HOWTO really great, and the rc.firewall script a great 
basis. I then added back my (fairly paranoid) existing rules, and it's 
all chugging along beautifully!

Yay!
