Instead of buying a generic branded laptop, many smaller retailers will offer
to build or assemble one for you at approximately the same (or less) cost,
which is the solution I chose when I needed a new laptop. Since they'll be
installing the software, you can easily ask them to skip installing windows
and they'll most likely discount you on the price since they're able to save
a considerable amount of time. In my instance I saved over $160.
