[Techtalk] password aging, limiting login retries, /etc/pam.d follies

I want to set password defaults: limit login attempts and set the expiration
interval. I also want to make useradd -m (create a homedir) the default. Back
in ye olden daze we used /etc/login.defs. Simple. Easy. Now
there's /etc/pam.d/ and I just don't get it. I read the The Linux-PAM System
Administrators' Guide, and I'm not fooled, that's a programmer's guide. Help,
please. :)
