Yes, I've read about this. Red Hat is tired of cases where companies buy
support for a tenth of their RH machines, but whenever they have a
problem it happens to be on a machine that they bought support for. I
understand that RH's support contract includes the possibility of
Microsoft-style audits - though RH has never actually used that section
of the contract so far. Red Hat does much charitable work but its
employees still need to earn a living.

Marc Ewing had a reputation for being able to fix any computer
problem at his college. He always wore a red baseball cap on campus,
and so was known as "the guy in the red hat". Later, when he started
his own open-source company, he wondered what to call it...
