Make internationally generalisable statements (like "Good Friday is
always a public holiday", "women have had the vote since 1910", or "NAT
is evil") that either lack or appear to lack relevance or context
outside some particular country or culture on these lists and expect to
be called on them. Even when they apply to the person you're responding
to. Especially when they're strong opinions that the *other* readers of
your email (the four hundred whom you weren't directly replying to) will
read as potentially relevant to them. You're welcome to defuse this at
the time by saying "since you're in the USA..."

PS Please take all further discussion of what is or is not or could be
or might be or never was and never will be an inappropriate assumption
to grrltalk, thanks.
