You and me both... but after 5 years of Mandrake, I'm finally resigned to
just ignore it :)

You pretty much gave me what I needed to push me over the edge.  However,
in a separate post, Carla wrote:

I just realized that my preference for Mandrake is probably the fact that I
do use it as a server.  I fell in love with 'Nix before I'd even heard of
gui's, X and window managers.  Took me 12 months to get used to my first
AIX install -- cool thing was that the AIX gui's would show you the command
line syntax so you could figure out how to do something for the first time
using the GUI... then use the command line the next time you had to do it
again.

I rarely use the desktop for anything besides making sure my web sites look
OK with alternate browsers.  All the manual how-to's seem to work perfectly
on Mandrake even when they're Redhat-specific and I learn a lot more by
doing it the "hard" way.  The really weird thing is I could never get a
Redhat install to stabilize so I finally gave up.

Go figure.
