[Techtalk] Automatic update of Cron

I have a bunch of networked machines and I'm trying to get them to all 
update their crontabs at 5:30 AM every morning from a common file (on a 
networked filesystem). Here's the relevant crontab entry:

30 5  * * *     crontab $HOME/crontab.txt

It doesn't work (nothing changes). Anyone have any ideas as to why?
