Hi all,
Just reporting back to all who offered suggestions that getting my winmodem
working proved to be quite straightforward, once I worked my way through
the confusing information at linmodems.org and worked out where to go.
If anyone else has a SwannSmart II internal, the place you need to go is
http://www.mbsi.ca/cnxtlindrv/ (some of these may use a different chipset,
you need to download http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/packages/scanModem.gz
and run it to test for which modem you have).
They have binaries available for RedHat, Mandrake, and SuSE. The rpms for
RedHat are compiled for architecture and kernel. The only minor problem I
had was that they say make sure you download the exact architecture and
kernel version, so I downloaded the version for i586 for my kernel, which
complained when I tried to install it. I then went and got the i386
version, which installed fine.
Go figure.
But all in all, very painless. :-)
Jess
