Yes, that's how I normally define a black box as well - an opaque
abstraction that is fed data and whose inner workings are unknown; we
know *what* it does (like an interface) not *how* it does it.

But, from the context of the message I inferred Subba would like a
bare-working installation of GNU/Linux and build up from there as
opposed to installing many components and then removing the ones she
doesn't need.
