Assuming she recovers the data, there's nothing stopping her attempting
to partition again.

There are two ways to partition a disk that has data on it:

 1. Copy all the data to somewhere else. Partition the disk with fdisk
 and reformat the partitions. Copy the data back.

 2. Repartition the disk with tools that can preserve data -- Partiton
 Magic is the best known. Even in this case, backups are recommended.

Once she's recovered the data, Staci can do either of these.

Recovering the data in this case is the big task.
