I've been using Mandrake since version 8.1, which I paid for. I've given
money to be a member of the Mandrake Club. There are many things about
Mandrake that I have really liked, such as the intaller (when it works)
and good detection of hardware.

What I have never liked about Mandrake is that while they go on about how
much QA they do per release, each one still has a number of noticable
bugs that make Mandrake not install right and some utilities not work
right out of the box for many people.

In version 9.0 and 9.1 beta, urpmi to version urpmi-4.2-6mdk will
destructively rewrite the directory you pass to it - and *all* the
directories underneath it if used with the --bug option. :-|

Apparently someone decided to put
rm -rf
into the routine somewhere and not mention this in the man page.

So, it is confirmed that the directory passed to the --bug option will be
overwritten. The current workaround is to pass a directory to --bug that
is owned by root anyway and has nothing in it or under it. They have
closed the bug as "resoved" and say that this will be fixed when 9.1
comes out as "stable".
