almost forgot the obvious:
at some point during the installation before the first reboot
or after the first reboot (from floppy disk again, supplying the
argument root=/dev/sda?? to lilo) copy the kernel (and for method
2, the modules) from floppy disk to your hard disk and configure
lilo accordingly.
