You can remount the root partition read-write thus:

mount -o remount,rw /

Of course, you _should_ fsck it before remounting but for an emergency,
you could get away with it.  I've used this to save my bacon on a number
of disk moves when I've forgotten whichever vital step that I should have
made before the move...
