[Techtalk] serial port connection

I'm having problems setting up a serial port connecting.

Basically, we have several machines that lack monitors - in order to
connect directly to them we use hyperterminal from Windows.

I tried setting up a similar connection using both minicom and ckermit
but couldn't get a connection.

The device is COM1 in Windows.  I tried /dev/ttyS1 and /dev/ttyS2 in
minicom with baud rate 9600 and no parity.  No connection.

Also tried ckermit> set line /dev/ttyS2 got the erro rmessage -
/dev/ttyS* is not a terminal device

Any suggestions on what I might be doing wrong?
