Hi all :)
okay so what i need to do is steal music off a wicked server my friend is
running. any solution that makes this possible is an awsome one, but any
background as to why i cant make anyting work would also be greatly appreciated
cuz i'm confused.
the server is named snipps, i cant do ping snipps, but i can ping it by ip
address. i have the samba browser xfsamba and i cant see this server (this is
all a uni network but i dont really know the structure with workgroups and
whatever) but i assume thats related to my not being able to ping it by name. i
tried the command smbclient //<hisIPaddress> and i got a message "Not enough
'\' characters in service. so i tried smbclient //<hisIPaddress>/pete (the
directory i'm lookin for)
added interface ip=155.246.218.15 bcast=155.246.218.255 nmask=255.255.255.0
session request to <hisIPaddress> failed (Called name not present)
session request to 155 failed (Called name not present)
Password:
entered some passwork, said some windows stuff about bad network name.
i tried to mount this stuff (yeah even though i couldnt get to it, i thought
this might work)
mount -t smbfs -o username=guest,password= //<hisIPaddress> /mnt/snipps
i get:
timeout in connecting to <hisIPaddress>:139
Error connecting to <hisIPaddress> (Operation already in progress)
730: Connection to <hisIPaddress> failed
SMB connection failed
so last night i went to talk to him and he couldnt fix the samba part but he
gave me an ftp account, which works great except he has 200+gig in only 4
directories, they're huge and they scroll off my screen. i cant pipe it to less,
ls | less asks if i want to save to local file less. ls | movies save to local
file movies, yes gives me a blank file. <sigh> help :)
sorry this got so long, thanks very much for any insite
