Dead-screen laptops should make great low-power servers (I've been wanting
to try that). But the most successful cheap-out I've seen is to hang
around eBay until you find one with a dead motherboard and buy it for the
screen (on spec -- it's a gamble).
	Though I've never faced that problem personally, I did get a
broken laptop last year for $5 that supplied me with two RAM chips and a
hard drive that were selling as components for over $150.
	Might work.
