[Techtalk] RH8--no gcc??

I haven't tried to install RH 8.0 myself, but based on my roommate's
experience and reports I have seen on local mail lists it appears to be
crippled from the perspective of the average desktop user. RH's VP of
Marketing spoke at ITEC Austin a few weeks ago and stopped by the Austin
Linux Group booth, where I was able to talk to him for a few minutes, and
asked about their decision to drop out all MPG3 decoders. RH's strategy is
very focused on large corporate users with centralized IT support. Their
field tests focused on commericial apps like Oracle and SAS, and they have
become very sensative to licensing and royalty issues. It may be that gcc is
no longer installed by default, but instead must be selected. If gcc is not
present, make usually looks for another C compiler, and cc is the most common
name for them. Also, a few ionstallations rename or alias gcc to cc.
