I do believe that this problem depends heavily on the video hardware and
the drivers you are using with it .. of course, the version of X may be a
factor. I've had this trouble with some older video cards.
Since you are running Redhat 7.2, I bet your X version is quite high. Are
you running the high resolution consoles? I have seen that cause weird
problems when switching to and from X before ...
