hi all
im struggling to get sound going on my infamous thinkpad 600E which i
keep asking about ;-)
doing quite well actually, i've got the new kernel working, 2.5.9,
everything else is going fine... but i still havent been able to load sound.
2.5.9 has ALSA built in to the kernel - so i've got the right modules
and everything. below is a forward of a message i sent to
linux-audio-user with a list of whats going on.... basically it cant
seem to find the device even though its there. im running mandrake 8.2
but this is a vanilla 2.5.9 development kernel... i wanted something
2.5.5 or above because thats when ALSA was added. strangely i've had the
same problem with my turtle beach pinnacle card on my workstation -
although it detects and configures my AWE64 fine (so in that case i
assumed i'd run out of interrupts ;-). the workstation is running mdk
8.2 with 2.4.18-6mdk .
any ideas would be very gratefully welcomed :-)))

hi all
thanks for the help with my thinkpad600E....
i've changed my modules.conf as suggested, which has helped a lot -
removed all the unresolved symbol errors. but i'm still having problems
with modprobe:
[root at hamish miriam]# modprobe snd-cs4236
/lib/modules/2.5.9/kernel/sound/isa/cs423x/snd-cs4236.o: init_module: No
such device
Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters,
including invalid IO or IRQ parameters
modprobe: insmod /lib/modules/2.5.9/kernel/sound/isa/cs423x/snd-cs4236.o
failed
modprobe: insmod snd-cs4236 failed
im sure the settings must be right (especially as they're copied from
another
thinkpad user!)
further exploration shows /proc/interrupts is a bit strange... i cant
see the sound card there at all: although the two Texas Instruments
references are my modem and DSP - the tp 600E shares the mwave DSP as
soundcard and modem dsp... so maybe it *is* there.... (im not good on
hardware)....
