In RHL 7.3 while dialing with kppp 2.1.1 I got this following message and
it disconnects and denies to connect to the net.

"Timeout expired while waiting for the PPP interface to come up"

In tail -f /var/log/messages shows:

pppd [2937] modprobe: can't locate module ppp0.

The modem is in ttyS0 port.

Also,

ls -al in both /dev/ttyS0 and /dev/ttyS1 shows that:

crw-rw---- 1 root uucp 4, 64 Jul 21 13:16 /dev/ttyS0 & /dev/ttyS1

I have added the following in the /etc/modules.conf file -

You might try adding this to your /etc/modules.conf in that case:

alias /dev/ppp ppp_generic
alias ppp_generic char-major-108

# mknod /dev/ppp c 108 0

After that the connection doesn't disconnects but it just hangs in there
without disconnecting or without logging on the net.

Big Thanks to anyone who can help me with the problem.
