Just now I also found-out the following:

ls -al in both /dev/ttyS0 and /dev/ttyS1 shows that:

crw-rw---- 1 root uucp 4, 64 Jul 21 13:16 /dev/ttyS0 & /dev/ttyS1

just hope that it'll help you to help me solve the problem.
