I'm not sure I know what you mean. dmesg seems like perfectly good 'linux english' to me although I am by now means an
expert. Everything goes as per my desktop with the exception of the Kernel panic message.

Here is just a thought based on an experience I had once:
When you try to boot without the floppy, do you notice any "unresolved
symbol" messages on the screen before the "no init found" ? I got a
problem report from a customer once, where they ran into this. It turned
out that they were using the i386 version of the driver diskette, instead
of the i686 version (which was appropriate for their system). Installs
always went fine, but they could never reboot (symbol tables didn't
match), and got the same error message you reported.
