OK, so as you realise, the MySQL daemon is running. Sorry if I keep
suggesting stuff you've already done, but - see if there's anything
relevant in your Apache logs. The relevant files are called access.log
and error.log

Unfortunately their location varies by distribution, but they might be
found in /var/log/apache or /var/log/httpd
