Because it sounded like in your scenario, all of the computers would have 
to go through a process to find an IP, perhaps for some taking multiple 
steps (more as more are added to the network). In this scenario only one or 
two computers have to go through the process - the rest just have to do one 
ping and they are done.

That's just my two cents. I've never built such a system, so I don't know 
this from experience.
