Thanks everyone for your help. I installed Sylpheed and it looks fine so 
far. But other problems that I'm facing are: when I log on as root and 
startx and try to connect online (dial-up) I can but when I log on as a 
normal user and try to connect online the modem doesn't make a buzz. Then 
suddenly quite arbitrarily after a long period of time it dials and if 
doesn't find the connection, it stops again. What is the problem in here? 
How can I connect a normal user online like I do for root.

And also even when connected online as root I can't do a simple thing. No 
mail checking/ ping/ netscape and nothing. Do I have to put the DNS entry 
for my ISP in /etc/resolv.conf and make it chmod 755?

And where is the newchix mailing list? Is this active? Cause so far haven't 
got anything from them.
