Um.
1. There aren't any new rules yet.
2. The current thought is 'try to figure out whether the questioner
needs an answer fast, or needs support/confidence, and answer or
not-answer appropriately'. You need an answer fast. :)

For both hardware questions:
Redhat maintains a 'this hardware is linux-compatible' webpage on their
site. One of our chix used to be responsible for that page, I think. (I
may have this confused.)
Ah. http://hardware.redhat.com/ - but it's very easy to find from the
main page. Go to 'support and docs' from the top menubar; then to
'hardware compatibility' in the box of links at the top left.
