If you want free, try GNU octave (http://www.octave.org), which is
somewhat like matlab.  Matlab also has a Linux version
(http://www.mathworks.com/products/matlab/requirements.shtml), if you
need the additional functionality and you're willing to pay ~$2k for
it.
