Now while having been a teenage girl, I was never fashion anything, except perhaps out of fashion :)

But anyway I think I understand your budgetary restraints and so can best recommend the Linux Documentation Project (www.tldp.org)

Not only do they have there a great collection of how-tos, but other texts as well called Guides. These guides could well be what you are seeking.

Have a look on the LDP site, I'm sure you'll a find a guide or a how-to there so you can brush up your linux skills.
