I would try removing all the KDE rpm's, then installing the originals from
your RedHat CD-Rom with the -i or the -U switch.  It sounds like you have an
unresolved dependancy, and thats causing your system hang.  Normally though
it will leave a message in /var/log/syslog or messages.
